Nutmeg Powder (Jaiphal Powder)

Nutmeg has a light brown hue and is an oval-shaped spice that is obtained from a nutmeg tree. It is covered in red lace known as mace.

It has a mild taste and has a sweet tone to it, along with a strong aroma. It is cautiously dried in the sun for over a period of six to seven weeks.

Vegans can utilize it as it is not an animal byproduct. The spice is available in two forms, a powered version and as a whole spice. Nutmeg is dried and roasted slightly before transforming it into powder.

Although allergy caused due to nutmeg has not been reported. It can be a potent allergic food that might trigger various immune reactions from moderate to critical. Dogs and cats should be kept entirely away from it as they are very sensitive towards it.

Mothers expecting or are lactating should avoid its consumption as it may cause miscarriage or congenital disabilities in the baby.

HOW TO USE

Fresh nutmeg can be obtained by grating the seed, while users can also use the powered one. It is pretty versatile as it goes well with sweet beverages and spicy dishes.

Added to various curries and rice dishes like biryani and pulao etc. It is also used to spice up coffee, tea, milk, and chocolate. You can also sprinkle a small amount of it on fruits or salads.
